Discover surprising inventions like Pocket Watches

Back in time, pocket watches were already fabulous. This period was brought to 48 months by the emperor Octavian. Pope Gregory XIII corrected the error accumulated until the fourteenth century, with the Gregorian calendar which currently governs. To measure time, there was a huge need of a tool.

The first time measurements were made from astronomical observations and for a long time the sky was the main instrument of that measurement. From very early in history, man realized he could go to physical phenomena were repeated periodically and regularly use their tools to build that measured time intervals.

The first pocket watches that were available to the man were undoubtedly derived from the alternation of day and night, i.e. the solar day. But along came the technological history of increasingly sophisticated inventions that allowed “observe” periods of time from the calendars that record days, years and centuries, through the hourglasses, candles, dials and other instruments that measure short periods , such as hours, minutes and seconds until the clock Celsius atoms, whose accuracy is maintained for 30, 000 years.

Water

The clepsydra or water clock dating back to ancient Egypt and were used especially at night, when the shadow clocks did not work. The first consisted clepsydras an earthen vessel containing water to a certain extent, with a hole at the base of sufficient size to ensure the escape of liquid at a given speed and, therefore, at a fixed time. The bowl was marked with several lines indicating the hours in different seasons.

Water clocks lead to the top pocket watches. While the pocket models appeared in France, both were also used in Athenian courts to mark the time allotted to speakers and have the philosopher Plato invented a water clock very efficient. Later they were introduced to the court of Rome for the same purpose, in addition to use in military campaigns to point out the night watches. The Egyptian water clock, more or less modified, remained the most efficient instrument for measuring time over many centuries.

In the eleventh century, the official Chinese scientist Su Song and invented a complex astronomical clock powered by water. Here we see a water wheel that moved the invention and a drawing of it. This clock tower about twenty feet tall, worked from a reservoir from which a stream of water flowed always the same on the blades of a wheel.

This begin triggering various
pocket watches
mechanisms that made it look different figures that indicated times (accompanied by hints of gong and drum) and moved a representation celestial sphere of stars and constellations.
