Mantel Desk
i need help with my hifi setup, i have tannoy mercury f1 custom speakers and a sony ta fe370 amp?
It just doesn’t sound good, i was considering buying a denon amplifier, and wall mounting the speakers as right now they are in an awkward position in my room, ones 2 ft from my head on the mantel piece and the other a bit closer on my computer desk, i want to wall mount them so there both pointing straight at me over a metre apart from each other, can any one that knows what there talking about help me achieve good sound, i can spend 100 on a used amp and 150 on a subwoofer. sorry for the essay.
You did not mention what is the source so it is difficult to know what is wrong in the ‘chain’. The amp is a good entry-level one, and from the brief description f the layout, it is doubtful if buying a new amp will improve things very much, especially with wall mounting! If your space is so cramped that you have to place one speaker 2ft away from your head, there is little hope of true hi-fi sound, to be perfectly honest. I don’t know what you expect to get and what you listen to, but tannoys are good ‘book-shelf’ speakers and for best effect should be on a good pair of stands raised at least couple of feet off the floor. One metre apart is on the close side; try as far as you can – possibly 2 metres apart and at least 3 metres from you. Forget the subwoofer in a small space. Use the money to buy a good pair of headphones.
